Problem printing jpg's

I am running windows 2000 sp4 trying to use mail print.
When I recieve an email with a jpg attachment I recieve : exception error or Application does not support printto, using default printer
Error: problem executing print verb on file, error: 1155

Also my HPlaserjet 4200 always asks me to load manual letter even when it is full of paper?

Any help is appreciated.

The paper tray problem is fixed in the current release, you can download it from http://www.frogmorecs.com/downloads.html

Once you have installed it you will need to open up each account you have configured and click on the page setup button to set the paper tray and size.

The jpg problem can be resolved by using the internal handler for jpg images, click on the options button on the toolbar and in the images tab turn on the internal handler for jpg files.

Okay, I have the tray issue resolved but now when it tries to print any attachment I recieve "An unhandled exception occured. Press 'Abort' to terminate the program, 'Retry' to exit the program normally and 'Ignore' to try to continue."

I am using the internal handler for jpg's and pdf's.

Could you send a sample jpg to test [at] frogmorecs.com (replace [at] with @ so we can check it out?

It looks like we have a problem with images which are too large for the page at the default resolution, I have uploaded an update which shrinks oversize images to fit the page.

You can download it from http://www.frogmorecs.com/downloads.html

You need to enable the internal handler for jpg attachments, click on the options button on the toolbar and select the "Image Files" tab and enable the internal handler for all the image types.

I am using the internal handler.
This is also happening with microsoft word docs as well.

There are a couple of different issues here, let deal with the easy one first. Mail Print doesn't understand every file format out there so for most formats it uses the original application to print the document. There is a standard way for an application to support printing using some registry settings and what is called a printto verb. This method is the same used when you drag and drop a file from Windows Explorer directly onto a printer in the Printers folder.

Some applications don't support the printto verb so in this case Mail Print tries to use a slightly less flexible verb called print. The difference between printto and print is print only doesn't allow you to select a printer, your output will allways go to the default printer. So when you see a line like this:

Application does not support printto, using default printer

it means the application associated with the file type you are printing doesn't support printing to a non default printer in the background.

If there is no print verb associated with the file type then you will get a message like this:

Error: problem executing print verb on file, error: 1155

This means no application is registered to print this document type, try dragging one of these files onto a printer in the Printers folder and you will get an error message. If you are getting this problem with Word attachments in Mail Print maybe you don't have Word installed on the PC or there is some problem with its installation.

The second issue with the error message "Unknown exception" is probably related to the image format in some way, can you email a copy of the image to test [at] frogmorecs.com and we will check it out.

On the machine that has mail print installed I have installed Microsoft office 2000, which includes both excel and word.
It has only one printer installed and it is the default. I have dragged .doc, .xls, .txt, .jpg files onto the printer that is installed and they print without any error messages.

We got your test message, for some reason we seem to be getting an extra attachment with a .DAT extension related to the body of the message. Its this attachment that seems to be creating the error messages. We will look into this and get back to you.

It looks like your virus software is adding an extra attachment which Mail Print is trying to print. We should have a fix for this some time next week.

The current build at http://www.mail-print.com/download.html should resolve your problem.
